Mahindra University Launches School of Hospitality Management in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Mahindra University has announced the establishment of its new School of Hospitality Management in Hyderabad. The school will offer a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) program in Culinary and Hospitality Management. This program is designed to prepare students for the ever-changing hospitality industry by combining traditional skills with modern technology. The focus will be on innovation, analytics, and sustainability, opening up global opportunities for graduates.
The first academic session for this program will begin in February 2025, with the intake limited to 60 students. Admissions are set to open in January 2025. Students who have completed their 10+2 in any stream with at least 80% marks are eligible to apply. Admission will be based on scores from the NCHMCT JEE entrance exam or the Mahindra University Hospitality Management Entrance Test (MUHET 2025), followed by a panel interview for shortlisted candidates. The school has partnered with renowned global institutions such as Virginia Tech, Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership at the University of Houston, Swiss Hotel Management School, César Ritz Colleges, and Culinary Arts Academy in Switzerland. It has also collaborated with Mahindra Holidays and Club Mahindra, offering students hands-on training and industry exposure. These partnerships aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world practices.
Dr. Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor of Mahindra University, emphasized the program’s innovative approach. He stated, “The School of Hospitality is a remarkable addition to our portfolio of cutting-edge programs. Students will master the latest trends and technologies under the guidance of experienced faculty through masterclasses, workshops, and real-world simulations.”
Chef K. Thirugnanasambantham, Dean of the School of Hospitality, highlighted the program’s focus on developing technical skills, leadership, and sustainability practices. He added, “The curriculum will also address emerging areas such as using technology to enhance customer experiences and creating culinary innovations that promote health and wellness. This forward-thinking approach will equip students to lead in the global hospitality industry.”
India’s hospitality and culinary sector is a significant contributor to the economy, generating approximately $250 billion annually and accounting for 7.5% of the GDP. With growing domestic and international tourism, the industry is expected to create over 10 million new jobs by 2033. This initiative by Mahindra University aims to prepare students to thrive in this expanding sector.
