Mahesh warns that internet users are at risk of cybercrime.

The Additional Director General of Police (CID) for Telangana, Mahesh M Bhagwat, has highlighted the increased risk of cybercrime for internet users and emphasized the importance of safe technology use. Speaking at a Cyber Crime & Cyber Law training program for 30 Judicial Officers in Hyderabad, Bhagwat advised that using a complicated password that includes alphanumeric special characters can significantly reduce vulnerability to cybercrime. He also recommended changing passwords every three months and avoiding easy-to-guess passwords, which are a common mistake made by many people. Bhagwat cited cases such as the organ trade scam and how cybercriminals lure young people into technical jobs that ultimately lead to involvement in cybercrime. The Telangana State Police have taken several steps to combat cybercrime and the Ministry of Home Affairs has launched CCPWC (Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children), with the CID serving as the Nodal Agency to conduct programs in the state. The training program aims to equip officers with knowledge on various kinds of cybercrime, especially social media-related crimes, and investigation skills to handle them. The officers will be trained on various topics of cybercrime investigation and procedures followed during investigations.
