Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has become the ‘Smile Ambassador’ for the Maharashtra government’s oral hygiene campaign called ‘Swachh Mukh Abhiyaan’. The state Medical Education Department runs the ‘Swachh Mukh Abhiyaan’ and the Indian Dental Association (IDA) created the campaign to raise awareness of oral hygiene and health among people in India. The campaign promotes a five-point oral hygiene agenda, which includes brushing teeth twice daily, rinsing after every meal, eating healthy food, avoiding smoking or chewing tobacco to prevent oral cancer and going for dental check-ups at least twice a year. Tendulkar was previously the ‘Hand Ambassador’ for a cleanliness campaign launched by the liquid antiseptic brand, Savlon.
