Madhavaram Krishna Rao, the BRS candidate from Kukatpally, is preparing to win a seat in the Assembly for the third time. He has gained support from voters who are native to Andhra Pradesh and due to the development in the constituency.
During the elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the BRS managed to win all eight divisions, showing the strong support base for Krishna Rao. Before the state was divided, this constituency was traditionally a stronghold for Telugu Desam.
Krishna Rao was previously a member of Telugu Desam and won from Kukatpally in 2014. However, after joining the BRS, he has solidified his position and won with a large margin. He also defeated N Suhasini of TDP in 2018. After winning twice in a row, he is now aiming for a third victory.
The MLA is relying on various development projects in the constituency, such as solving long-standing drinking water issues, widening roads, and constructing flyovers to address traffic problems. He has also conducted traffic safety campaigns to improve safety and reduce road accidents. Additionally, he has worked on rural development projects and provided assistance to underprivileged children.
The Kukatpally Assembly constituency has over 200,000 voters from Andhra Pradesh, including voters from the Kamma community.
In 2018, Madhavaram Krishna Rao BRS won the seat by defeating Nandamuri Venkata Suhasini of TDP with a margin of 41,049 votes. He has been winning for two consecutive terms. In 2014, he won from TDP with a margin of 43,186 votes.
In the 2014 Assembly elections, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, who was in TDP at the time, won with 99,874 votes (43.3% of the vote share), while the BRS candidate, Gottimukkala Padma Rao, came in second with 56,688 votes (24.6% of the vote share). M Narsimha, the INC candidate, received 23,321 votes (10.1% of the vote share).
A resident of Allapur, Ch Murthy Babu, who is originally from Andhra Pradesh, stated that local issues and development are important factors when voting. He mentioned that the BRS has been actively involved in development projects, such as constructing flyovers that have eased traffic congestion for IT employees traveling to Hitech City.
It will be interesting to see if the people will ensure Madhavaram Krishna Rao’s hat-trick victory in this election.
