Hyderabad: Linemen and field workers in the Electricity Department play a very important role in providing power to people. Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary to the Energy Department, said that even though the government and top officials make plans for better electricity supply, the real success depends on the hard work and good behavior of the staff working on the ground.
In a special meeting with field staff across all areas, Sultania said that during the current Rabi crop season, power demand reached 17,162 megawatts. He praised the electricity staff and officers for making sure that power was supplied smoothly, even with this high demand.
Now that the Rabi season is ending, power use in rural areas is going down. However, in cities, electricity demand is rising due to the hot summer weather. Last year, the highest power demand in Greater Hyderabad was 4,352 megawatts. This year, it may go beyond 5,000 megawatts.
Musharraf Faruqui, Chairman and Managing Director of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited, said that the department is ready to handle the summer season. He explained that they have made all necessary preparations based on their past experience. He also said that review meetings will be held in all parts of Greater Hyderabad in the coming days to make sure everything runs smoothly.
