A transformer at the Bhadradri Thermal Power Station in Manuguru, Kothagudem District was struck by lightning on Saturday evening. This caused the first unit plant in the thermal power project to trip.
Alarmed officials immediately went to the field to check the transformer and attempted to change it. They are currently working on bringing it back into working condition.
Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao spoke to the Chief Engineer over the phone to inquire about the incident. The power generation of 270 MW was shut down due to the incident, and a preliminary report by officers estimated that Rs 1 crore worth of damage was caused.
