Medical shops in Hyderabad were recently raided by the Drug Control Authority of Telangana and the Narcotic Drugs Department. The officials found that some shops were selling scheduled drugs without prescriptions and charging more than the maximum retail price. As a result, licenses of at least ten shops were either permanently cancelled or temporarily suspended.
One of the scheduled drugs that were being sold without a prescription was Alprazolam Tablets. According to officials, this drug should only be given with a prescription, but some medical shops were giving it out across the counter. The authorities cancelled the licenses of Ganesh Pharmaceuticals at Inderbagh near Koti, Biosphere Enterprises at Amberpet, and Akshaya Medical and General Store permanently. The license of Sardar Medical Hall at Nampally was suspended for three days, while the license of Hyderabad Medical and General Stores Nampally was suspended for seven days.
Furthermore, the authorities also suspended the licenses of RS Medical and General Stores (wholesale and retail) at Langerhouz, Bharat Medical and General Stores at Charminar, Al-Hamra Medical and General Store Humayunnagar for 15 days, Sri Ayyappa Medical and General Stores Uppal, Gokul Medical Shop at Gowliguda for two days, Meera Medical Shop Charminar for seven days, and Life Pharma at Mangerbasthi.
Overall, these actions demonstrate the importance of following proper protocols when it comes to selling scheduled drugs. It is crucial that medical shops take the necessary precautions to ensure that these drugs are only dispensed with a valid prescription and not sold above the maximum retail price.
