The Telangana High Court has put a stop to the oaths of two state legislative council (MLC) members who were appointed by the state governor under the governor’s quota. The two leaders, Dasoju Sravan and K Satyanarayana, were nominated as MLCs by the previous government but had their nominations rejected by the governor. They filed a petition which led to the High Court intervening in the swearing-in process.
The controversy began when the names of Sravan and Satyanarayana were recommended by the previous government for the MLC positions subject to the governor’s quota. However, the governor rejected their nominations, citing their political and corporate affiliations. This led to a legal halt on MLC induction in Telangana. The two leaders questioned the governor’s decision and filed a petition in December. The high court directed the government and the governor to reach a resolution and maintained the status quo.
A division bench of the high court, consisting of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti, upheld the status quo. The matter will be further heard on February 8. Meanwhile, the newly nominated MLCs, Amer Ali Khan and M Kodandaram, were scheduled to take their oaths on Wednesday but it has been postponed due to the latest political developments in Telangana.
