On Mahavir Jayanti, which celebrates the birth anniversary of the founder of Jainism, Lord Mahavir, several leaders extended their greetings to the Jain community. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his wishes and highlighted the importance of Lord Mahavir’s teachings in creating a peaceful, harmonious, and prosperous society. He urged everyone to serve others and make a positive difference in the lives of the poor and downtrodden.
President Droupadi Murmu also sent her greetings to the Jain community and emphasised the need to aspire to Lord Mahavir’s way of compassion, sincerity, and nonviolence. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his wishes on this significant religious celebration.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wished everyone a happy holiday and stressed the importance of remembering and following the three A’s of ahimsa.
Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important religious celebrations for the Jain community. On this day, religious processions (rath yatra) are performed, flags are flown outside Jain temples, and donations are given to the destitute and underprivileged.
