Lalu's daughter interrogated by ED in relation to land-for-jobs case

Lalu Prasad’s daughter Chanda Yadav was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to a money laundering case. The case is linked to an alleged land-for-jobs scam in the railway. Chanda Yadav is the fourth child of Lalu Prasad to be questioned by the ED. His other children, including MP-daughter Misa Bharti and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, have also been questioned. The ED raided Chanda Yadav’s premises, along with her sisters and a former RJD MLA, in March. The investigation is ongoing, with the ED seizing unaccounted cash and detecting proceeds of crime worth Rs 600 crore. The alleged scam relates to the period when Prasad was the railway minister in the UPA-1 government.

During 2004-09, it was alleged that various people were appointed to Group D positions in the railways in exchange for transferring land to Lalu Prasad’s family members and A K Infosystems Pvt Ltd, a beneficiary company in this case. The CBI alleged that no advertisement or public notice was issued for the appointment, but some residents of Patna were appointed as substitutes in different railway zones. In return, the candidates allegedly sold land to Lalu Prasad’s family members at highly discounted rates.
