Telangana’s Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, KT Rama Rao, has accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of hindering Hyderabad’s development by refusing to support major infrastructure projects with illogical reasons and false reports. Rama Rao inaugurated the Lakes Development Program in Hyderabad on Tuesday and cited the example of the Centre’s refusal to support a 26-km metro rail corridor from Lakdikapul to BHEL and another 5-km metro stretch between Nagole and LB Nagar. The Centre claimed that the proposal was not feasible due to low passenger counts, but Rama Rao argued that videos of packed metro stations prove otherwise. He called on the Centre to be transparent about its lack of funding for Telangana’s growth. As part of the Lakes Development Programme, 25 lakes in GHMC limits and another 25 lakes in HMDA jurisdiction have been handed over to developers for rejuvenation and comprehensive development under their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, supervised by GHMC and HMDA.
