Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the working president of BRS, shared a scary incident from his past where he feared for his life during the arrests of party chief K Chandrashekar Rao and other leaders. This happened after the police stopped their ‘Deeksha’ protest.
Rama Rao explained that on November 30, he was arrested and jailed for the first time in his life. While in custody, he and other protesters managed to escape from the vehicle and took refuge at Professor Jayashankar’s residence. Later that evening, the police arrived at Jayashankar’s residence and suggested that Rama Rao be arrested.
During his time in custody, the local police were kind enough to transfer Rama Rao to a small hospital, where he stayed overnight. The next morning, when a barber was called to shave him, Rama Rao asked where the barber was from. The barber replied that he was from Pulivendula, which made Rama Rao nervous as the razor was on his throat. However, the barber shared that they were mourning the death of the then Chief Minister and understood the demands of the agitation. This incident left a lasting impact on Rama Rao.
Rama Rao also recalled another unforgettable incident. While KCR was on a hunger strike, the police released a video showing that he had ended his fast and drank juice. Although KCR was receiving treatment in the hospital, tensions were high in Telangana. KCR wanted to address the media, but the police denied permission, citing his imprisonment. In response, KCR broke a window glass and threatened to harm himself and the nearby leaders. This created a tense situation for Rama Rao.
Rama Rao also mentioned the political developments during the Deeksha period when senior leaders from Congress and BJP interacted with him. BRS leaders insisted that Congress should release a statement declaring the beginning of the process for the formation of Telangana, rather than forming a committee. Rama Rao also shared how the police tried to intimidate him by saying that KCR would go into a coma if he continued his fast.
