KTR Calls on Congress Government to Expedite Caste Census

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday urged the government to conduct a caste census for Backward Classes (BCs) immediately. He asked for the report to be completed before November 10, as promised during the previous elections. KTR made these statements during a meeting of BC leaders held at Telangana Bhavan.

While speaking to the media, KTR criticized the Congress party. He said that on November 10, 2023, the Congress made a declaration for BCs, but he believes they have failed to deliver on their promises. According to him, the Congress promised 42% reservations for BCs and an allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore, but after coming into power, they only allocated Rs 8,000 crore.

KTR emphasized the need for the government to fulfill all promises made to BCs. He demanded that the caste census be conducted immediately and completed within a week. He also pointed out that the Congress promised one minister’s post for Most Backward Classes (MBCs), but only provided two out of 18 posts.

The BRS leader further demanded that the government allocate Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 crore for BCs, either during the upcoming winter session or in the budget session. He mentioned that a team of leaders, led by S Madhusudhana Chary, Leader of Opposition in the Council, would study the reservation system in Tamil Nadu. KTR added that the party’s future plans would be discussed with the party chief, K Chandrashekar Rao.

When asked about the state of hospitals, KTR said that their success depends on the efficiency of individuals managing them. He pointed out that 68 infants and 14 mothers/pregnant women had died in a month at Gandhi Hospital, which had saved thousands of lives during the COVID pandemic. He also suggested that the government declare a health emergency if necessary.
