Kothagudem District Witnesses Surge in Cybercrimes, Reveals Annual Crime Report

Kothagudem district saw an 18% increase in cybercrimes this year, according to Dr. Vineeth G, Superintendent of Police. A total of 138 cybercrime cases were recorded, resulting in a loss of Rs 4.76 crore. Out of 2,889 cases, 1,493 led to convictions, with a conviction rate of 51.67%, which is an increase of 8.77%.

Cases of robbery and murder for gain decreased by 100%. However, there was an increase in murders (23.8%), violent crimes (4.97%), deadly car crashes (11.3%), POCSO cases (2.38%), crimes against SC/ST (7.69%), and crimes against females (7.25%). On the other hand, common thefts decreased by 27.12% and rape cases decreased by 6.56%.

In total, there were 5,293 reported cases in 2023, representing a 0.35% increase in the crime rate. The police also seized 4,734 kg of ganja worth Rs 11.62 crore. The report revealed 43 left-wing extremist cases, leading to the detention of 80 primary accused individuals, including three LOS commanders, one LOS Dy Commander, and a State committee member. Five Maoists surrendered, while two were killed in a confrontation under the Cherla police station limits. The police confiscated explosive materials, land mines, weapons, and Rs 24.25 lakh in cash related to these cases.

To tackle the growing problem of narcotics, Dr. Vineeth G announced the establishment of a dedicated narcotics unit in Kothagudem district to strengthen their anti-drug efforts.
