Union Minister and BJP Telangana State president G Kishan Reddy said that September 17 holds great significance for the people of Telangana State. He explained that from 1724 to September 17, 1948, Hyderabad State was ruled by Asaf Jahis and Nizam rulers. There were numerous struggles and sacrifices against the Nizam’s rule in the Hyderabad presidency. The State achieved independence on September 17 due to the bravery of former deputy prime minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Reddy pointed out that out of the 16 districts of Hyderabad State, eight districts are now part of Telangana. He alleged that the Nizam was merely an agent of the British King and had made a treaty with the British to protect his kingdom. The Nizam imported weapons from other countries. From 1911 to September 17, 1940, the seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan ruled the Hyderabad princely state. Reddy claimed that the Nizam announced that the entire state of Hyderabad would be independent and decided to Islamize the area.
According to Reddy, the Nizam ruler conspired to prevent any movement in the Hyderabad state and converted many Hindus to Islam. People built towers in various areas and villages to protect themselves against the Nizam’s rule. There was fierce resistance against the atrocities of the Razakars under the Nizam rule. The Nizam founded an organization called Majlis Ittehad to destroy temples, customs, and ways of life. In 1948, Qasim Razvi, a Muslim fanatic, led a company of razakars, in which MIM party members participated.
Reddy claimed that members of Majlis-e-Ittehadal and the Razakars committed genocide against Hindus and carried out crimes such as murders, rapes, gang rapes, attacks, and forcible conversions. Many people fled to Maharashtra and Karnataka in miserable conditions. He alleged that the Congress party and the Majlis conspired to erase the history of September 17.
Reddy criticized the Congress party for not officially celebrating Telangana Liberation Day. He questioned Chief Minister KCR as to why it was not being celebrated officially, pointing out that KCR himself had questioned the Congress party in 2007 for not celebrating the day. Reddy accused KCR of being under the influence of the MIM party and claimed that the MIM party controlled the government’s actions.
