Hyderabad: The BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) leader, K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), is currently focusing on bamboo farming. He has been encouraging leaders who meet him to consider bamboo cultivation as a profitable business, promising good returns.
Sources reveal that KCR plans to use most of his farmhouse land for bamboo cultivation. Out of the 120 acres at his farmhouse, he intends to dedicate around 100 acres to bamboo farming. The remaining land will be used for growing food crops like rice.
As a farmer himself, KCR often discusses farming during meetings with party leaders. These discussions happen in small groups, and besides politics, farming is a frequent topic. A BRS leader who recently met KCR shared that while they talk about the political situation, KCR emphasizes that he will step forward when the public calls for him.
KCR is confident that bamboo farming will be highly profitable. He has procured bamboo seeds from Madhya Pradesh, and the crop is expected to start yielding after five years. Once bamboo starts growing, it will continue to provide returns each year. Typically, 200 bamboo saplings can be planted in one acre, and the initial investment is around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per acre.
Experts believe bamboo farming has little risk. By the fifth year, farmers can expect an income of Rs 2 lakh per acre, with earnings increasing annually afterward. The crop requires minimal water, and contractors handle the cutting process, ensuring farmers only sell when it’s profitable. Earlier, KCR made headlines for capsicum farming, claiming he could generate Rs 10 crore in income from his farmhouse.
BRS leaders have also mentioned that KCR plans to become more active in public after the Sankranti festival. He is expected to reorganize the party by appointing new committees.
