Kavitha sends letter to leaders of 47 parties regarding women’s quota Bill

Member of Legislative Council K Kavitha from Hyderabad has written a letter to 47 political parties in India, urging them to come together and pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in the upcoming Parliament session. She has specifically addressed the presidents of all 47 parties with representation in the Indian Parliament, asking them to put aside their political differences and prioritize the passage of the bill.

The Women’s Reservation Bill aims to reserve 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women. Despite being an important step towards gender equality and inclusive governance, the bill has been stuck in the legislative process for a long time. In her letter, Kavitha emphasizes the crucial role women play in Indian society and the urgent need for their representation in legislative bodies. She also points out that there are already 14 lakh women actively participating in public life, proving their ability to lead and govern effectively.

Kavitha highlights the importance of inclusivity in democracy, stating that increased women’s representation is not about exclusivity but about creating a more balanced and equitable political landscape. She calls on all political parties to recognize the urgency of this matter and support the Women’s Reservation Bill.

It is worth mentioning that Kavitha had previously gone on a hunger strike in March to demand the tabling and passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill. She has been actively engaging with political parties and civil society organizations across India to amplify the demand for the bill.
