K. Kavitha Urges Telangana Government to Fulfill Promises to Women
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has urged the Congress-led Telangana government to fulfill its promises to women. She specifically demanded the implementation of the Mahalaxmi scheme, which provides ₹2,500 per month to women. Additionally, she called for the clearance of pending dues worth ₹35,000 per beneficiary, which have accumulated over the last 14 months.
Speaking at a Telangana Jagruthi women’s meeting on Tuesday, Kavitha acknowledged the government’s free RTC bus travel scheme for women. However, she highlighted operational challenges, such as overcrowding, which is causing difficulties for both women and other passengers. She urged the government to increase the number of buses to ease the situation.
Kavitha also questioned the status of other promises made to women. These include providing 10 grams of gold and ₹1 lakh financial aid for girls from poor families at the time of marriage, as well as distributing scooters to college-going women. She demanded a clear timeline for implementing these initiatives.
She set March 8, International Women’s Day, as the deadline for the government to announce an action plan for these schemes. Kavitha warned that if no progress is made, Telangana Jagruthi would launch a movement to push for their implementation.
