Karnataka BJP leader warns against trusting Congress' guarantees

Senior Karnataka BJP leader and former KSRTC chairman, Dr. Chandrappa, has stated that the six-month-old Congress government in Karnataka will collapse due to internal conflicts and group politics. Dr. Chandrappa addressed the media in Hyderabad, warning people about how the Congress has deceived the people of Karnataka with false promises to gain power. He also accused the Congress of using similar tactics to fool the people of Telangana.

Dr. Chandrappa highlighted some of the false promises made by the Congress government in Karnataka, such as providing 10 kg of rice, Rs 3,000 for women, free power up to 200 units, and unemployment allowance for youth. He pointed out that the government failed to deliver on the promise of 10 kg rice and is now offering only Rs 170 instead, even though a kilogram of rice costs around Rs 60 in the state. Only 10% of the three crore women in Karnataka received Rs 3,000 in the last six months, and the government did not fulfill its promise of free power. Farmers were severely affected by power cuts, which hindered their crops.

Dr. Chandrappa criticized the increase in liquor duty to boost revenue from Rs 26,000 crore to Rs 36,000 crore. He pointed out that despite this increase, the government lacks funds for public works throughout the state. He also highlighted the financial instability of Karnataka and gave an example of an MLA who was ignored when requesting Rs 10 lakh for work in his constituency. However, tenders were called for Rs 1,000 crore work in the same segment during the BJP government’s tenure.

The BJP government had invested heavily in filling water bodies and road development, spending over Rs 1 lakh crore on each. They also ensured that farmers received power for about 5-6 hours a day. In contrast, Dr. Chandrappa claimed that the Congress government has created discontent among the people and has negatively impacted the state within just six months.
