Karimnagar: Gangula Kamalakar hands out BC Bandhu benefits to recipients

Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister, Gangula Kamalakar, distributed BC Bandhu to beneficiaries in Karimnagar on Friday. Kamalakar stated that before the formation of Telangana, people who relied on caste professions had to migrate to places like Bombay to work as laborers due to lack of support. To revive these disappearing caste professions in Telangana, a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh will be provided to backward castes without requiring repayment in the form of bank linkage, installments, or interest.

Kamalakar distributed Rs 1 lakh assistance to caste workers and artisans under the BC Welfare Department in Karimnagar. He emphasized that the spending of this amount will be closely monitored by collectors to prevent misuse. The Minister compared the impact of the Dalit Bandhu scheme, where cleaners became owners, to the BC Bandhu scheme, which aims to help BCs become owners. BC Bandhu is not a one-time program, but a continuous process similar to other schemes like Kalyan Lakshmi, Shadi Mubarak, and Griha Lakshmi. Beneficiaries receive monthly checks, and electricity subsidies are also provided to those primarily dependent on caste workers in Telangana.

During the event, Kamalakar distributed checks to 705 beneficiaries in Karimnagar constituency. Mayor Y Sunil Rao praised the BC Bandhu scheme, stating that it should be remembered in history as no previous government had thought of such a way to support BCs. District Collector Dr. B Gopi mentioned that 1700 beneficiaries in the district have already benefited from the scheme, and efforts are being made to identify and provide financial assistance to the remaining eligible individuals.

Additional Collector Revenue Lakshmi Kiran, Additional Collector of Local Bodies Praful Desai, Deputy Mayor Challa Swaroop Rani Harishankar, Zilla Grandalaya Chairman Ponnam Anil Kumar Goud, Market Committee Chairman Reddaveni Madu, Kothapally Municipal Chairman Rudra Raju, District BC Welfare Officer Anil Prakash, and others also participated in the event.
