The Telangana government is conducting the Kanti Velugu programme, which is the world’s biggest eye screening programme. Over 1.58 crore people have been screened so far. The government has set up quality control teams at state and district levels to ensure that the programme runs smoothly. The Medical Department, Panchayat Raj, Municipal and other departments are actively participating in the programme. Medical officials believe that the programme can screen up to 2 crore people.

The Kanti Velugu programme is being conducted in line with the government’s vision of health for all. The camps are organised by district collectors, medical and health officials and officials of various departments. The figures show that many people are coming to the camps with blurred vision and near-sightedness. Reading glasses and vitamins are being distributed to those who need them.

Cataracts are a common problem for people above the age of 50, and doctors are communicating with those who need surgery. Advice and instructions are being given to those who have already undergone surgery and are facing other problems. The government is proud to undertake such a massive programme, which has not been attempted by any other state in the country so far.
