Kanti Velugu: Eye tests conducted on more than 1.49 crore people in Telangana

The Telangana government launched an initiative called Kanti Velugu to help people with vision problems. More than 1.49 crore people have undergone eye tests so far, and over 21.29 lakh people received reading glasses. The goal is to make Telangana free of blindness. The program has been successful in various regions, including 11,260 Gram Panchayat wards and 2981 Municipal wards. Free eye examinations were conducted for 1.50 crore people, and spectacles were given to 50 lakh people during the first phase of the program, which lasted eight months and started on August 15.

The second phase of Kanti Velugu began on January 18 and continues to be successful. In 79 working days, 88.04 percent of people got their eye tests done. The government aims to complete all eye tests within 100 working days. They are taking special care to ensure that other medical services are not affected during the eye care. Public representatives from various departments, including medical, panchayat raj, and municipal departments, are participating in the program.
