Hyderabad: The Kaleshwaram project has become a crucial lifeline for addressing Hyderabad’s drinking water needs, according to BRS working president KT Rama Rao. Speaking on Saturday, he emphasized the importance of the project, particularly for the city.
KT Rama Rao criticized the Congress party for initially opposing the Kaleshwaram project. He accused them of targeting the project to tarnish the reputation of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. However, he pointed out that the government is now utilizing water from the Mallanna Sagar reservoir, which was built as part of the Kaleshwaram project. The decision to draw 20 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water from the reservoir highlights the project’s significance.
The BRS leader noted that although there were protests against the Mallanna Sagar reservoir during its construction, it has now become a key solution to Hyderabad’s water scarcity. He also dismissed earlier claims by Congress leaders that the Kaleshwaram project would fail, stating that it has instead transformed Telangana into a “green paradise.”
KT Rama Rao demanded an apology from those who spread misinformation about the project, including allegations of financial losses amounting to one lakh crore rupees. He called on critics to acknowledge the Kaleshwaram project’s role in meeting the state’s water needs and ensuring Hyderabad’s sustainable growth.
