Rangareddy: Professor Faizan Mustafa, former Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR Law University, spoke about the importance of laws in governance. He compared a state without laws to a body without a mind. He emphasized that the justice delivery system relies on the collaboration between Magistrates, Judges, and parties involved.
During the Saulat Memorial Law Lecture 2023 in Hyderabad, Professor Mustafa explained the difference between the “Rule of Law” and “Rule by Law.” He stated that true justice and freedom are found in the rule of law, while arbitrary and exploitative legislation can result from rule by law.
Professor Mustafa expressed concern about the threat to democracies when inappropriate laws are introduced. He believes that the advocate fraternity plays a crucial role in fighting for the rights of oppressed people and upholding justice.
Justice G Sri Devi, the first female Judge of the High Court for Telangana, also spoke at the event. She emphasized the importance of thoroughly examining accused records and cautioned against hasty judgments that could lead to injustices and prolonged incarcerations. She encouraged young advocates to carefully study evidence in each case.
The event was organized by Advocate Mohammed Rafi Uddin in memory of his grandfather, Advocate Saulat. It was attended by numerous lawyers, legal professionals, and intellectuals from various fields.
