Gadwal: A campaign called “World Hunger Day, Not World Food Day” is being held across the Jogulamba district from October 1 to October 16, 2024. This campaign is being led by Telangana Farmers’ Union Secretary, G. Narsimlu, and an event was recently organized in Macharla village, Gattu Mandal.
In 2011, the 55th United Nations General Assembly brought together 192 nations to sign the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration, inspired by American civil rights activist Eleanor Roosevelt, aimed to promote gender equality by changing the word “man” to “people.” Eleanor Roosevelt’s efforts to protect the rights and dignity of women were significant, and because of her dedication, the United Nations chose her birthday, October 11, to be observed as the International Day of the Girl Child.
The United Nations established this day to highlight the issues girls face around the world, including violence, discrimination, and the denial of their rights. The day is meant to promote gender equality and to raise awareness of the challenges girls encounter in their daily lives.
The first International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated on October 11, 2012. This day focuses on addressing problems such as gender inequality, access to education, healthcare, legal rights, and protection from violence. It also aims to prevent forced child marriages and child labor.
The main goal of this day is to bring attention to these issues and to celebrate the achievements of girls and young women, especially in fields such as research and innovation.
In the event held at Macharla village, the local community, including young girls, women agricultural laborers, and parents, came together to support the cause. They raised awareness about the challenges that girls face across the globe and emphasized the importance of gender equality.
