CPM Leader Warns Against 'One Nation, One Election' Policy
CPM central politburo member BV Raghavulu has raised concerns about the “One Nation, One Election” policy, also known as simultaneous elections or Jamili elections. Speaking in Choutuppal, Yadadri-Bhongir, he cautioned that the policy could harm the existence of regional parties in India.
Raghavulu questioned the need for Jamili elections and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify who proposed the idea. He dismissed claims that holding simultaneous elections would save time and money, calling them misleading. Instead, he argued that such a move could disrupt the democratic process and pave the way for authoritarian rule.
He further stated that Jamili elections would favor wealthy individuals who can financially dominate election campaigns, leaving common people and smaller parties at a disadvantage. For these reasons, he emphasized that the CPM strongly opposes the policy.
The remarks were made on Sunday during a public meeting held at the RTC Bus Station grounds in Choutuppal. The event marked the beginning of a three-day CPM district convention. As part of the program, Red Shirt volunteers and party workers carried out a march and demonstration along the national highway in the town.
