Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy stated that the government in Telangana is planning to privatize the power sector. The government’s decision to assign private companies the responsibility of collecting power bills is part of this plan.

During a press conference, Reddy mentioned that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is considering giving the task of collecting electricity bills to Adani, not just in the Old City as a pilot project, but across the entire state. He expressed concern that this move could lead to the end of electricity subsidies and free power for farmers in Telangana.

Reddy accused Revanth Reddy of following the directives of the Central government and PM Modi in implementing policies that favor private entities like Adani. He emphasized that power companies should remain public property and not be controlled by individuals.

Reddy criticized Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka for his involvement in bidding for Singareni coal mines, contrasting it with KCR’s absence from the bidding process. He also pointed out discrepancies in the government’s promise of providing free electricity for up to 200 units, noting that many households in the Old City fall below this threshold.

In conclusion, Reddy condemned the government’s push toward privatization of the power sector and warned about the potential consequences for the people of Telangana.
