ISU calls on TAFRC chief to take strong action against colleges violating rules

Indian Students Union (ISU) state president Papani Nagaraju has asked for help from Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) chairman Justice Gopal Reddy to stop private unaided engineering colleges from charging too much money from parents.

Nagaraju claims that many engineering colleges are becoming autonomous institutions so they can charge high fees and ask for donations. Even lower-ranked colleges are trying to become autonomous to ask for donations ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 26 lakh, saying they are like UGC and JNTU-H autonomous colleges. These colleges do not have enough well-qualified teachers, which means students have to get extra training outside of school even after finishing their courses. The colleges also do not have good labs, and they start selling seats to parents before counseling even begins, promising good jobs in multinational companies.

Nagaraju wants the TAFRC to monitor how engineering and pharmacy colleges admit students. In Andhra Pradesh, fees range from Rs 45,000 to Rs 70,000, but colleges in Telangana are trying to charge more. He is asking the TAFRC not to let colleges raise their fees.

The ISU leader says a complaint was made against a college on December 13, 2022, but no action was taken. He has also complained to the Chief Secretary and the Education Secretary, but nothing has happened yet.
