Investigator submits application for direction in second phone-tapping case

Hyderabad: On Friday, the investigating officer in the second phone-tapping case filed a request in the High Court. The officer asked the court to cancel its earlier order, which had paused the investigation until March 3. This request was made to Justice Kunuru Lakshman, who had previously ordered the police not to continue their probe.

The court had issued this order after hearing arguments from senior lawyer Dama Seshadri Naidu. He was representing BRS leader T Harish Rao and retired DCP Radhakishan Rao, who are both accused in the case. Naidu pointed out that the police had already arrested two other accused in the case, and there was a possibility that his clients could also be arrested.

The investigating officer had sought permission from the lower court to take the arrested individuals into custody for further questioning. However, the lower court was hesitant to make a decision because the High Court had put the investigation on hold. As a result, the officer approached the High Court again, asking to cancel the stay order.

Public Prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao also urged the court to hear the matter quickly since the investigation was stalled and the custody request was pending. Justice Lakshman asked Naidu if he agreed to an early hearing. After Naidu consented, the judge dismissed the officer’s request to cancel the stay order. The court decided that the main case would be heard fully on February 27.
