The Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose Commission is investigating the reasons behind the damage to the Medigadda, Sundilla, and Annaram barrages. They aim to hold accountable those responsible for the loss to the state’s finances. The Commission will look into the roles of officials from various corporations, as well as serve notices to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao if evidence is found against them.
Additionally, the Commission plans to summon the PFC, REC, and Punjab National Bank consortium to investigate the funding of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and potential corruption in how the borrowed money was spent. State Hydrology and Engineering experts committees have been asked to provide details on the barrages for further investigation.
The funding agencies, including PFC, RFC, and Punjab National Bank, have each provided around Rs 20,000 crore for the Kaleshwaram project. The Commission will analyze the financial viability of the scheme and scrutinize how the loans were obtained from central lending agencies and banks. Allegations of borrowing money at high interest rates and financial irregularities in construction will also be looked into.
Furthermore, the Commission plans to question the state Finance wing’s management of funds during the construction of the barrages. All technical and financial data gathered will be compiled, and a public hearing will be held to address any discrepancies in facts presented by different stakeholders.
