The police have filed cases in Bowenpally, Gopalapuram, Chilkalguda, and Malkajgiri police stations. The investigation began after Ch Ramesh, a civil contractor from Bowenpally, reported that his daughter had informed him about a broken main door at their home on August 22. Upon inspection, Ramesh discovered that gold ornaments and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash were missing from his cupboard.

According to the police, Nilesh is a known house burglary offender in Maharashtra with a history of over 25 cases. He had recently been released from jail on August 15, 2023, and immediately planned to commit thefts in other areas. He selected Hyderabad for his house burglaries and recruited five accomplices to assist him.

On August 20, the gang traveled from Pune to Hyderabad on the Lokamanya Tilak Express and committed crimes in Bowenpally, Malkajgiri, Chilkalguda, and Gopalapuram. The Bowenpally crime team reviewed over 80 CCTV cameras to identify the suspects.
