Telangana Governor Announces New 'Governor Awards for Excellence'
Telangana Governor Jishnu Kumar Varma has introduced a new initiative called the ‘Governor Awards for Excellence’. These awards will be given to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions in the fields of environment protection, helping the differently-abled, sports and games, and culture.
Applications are open for individuals, institutions, organizations, societies, and trusts that have made outstanding contributions between 2019 and 2024. The last date to submit applications is November 23, 2024. The awards will be presented during the ‘At Home’ function at Raj Bhavan on Republic Day, January 26, 2025.
Governor Varma introduced this idea to make events like ‘At Home’ more meaningful. Often, such events are seen as mere rituals where people gather, eat, and leave. The Governor wanted to bring a greater sense of purpose to the occasion by recognizing excellence in these important fields. This information was shared by the Governor’s Principal Secretary, B Venkatesham, during a media briefing.
The awards will be presented in two categories for each field: one for individuals and another for institutions, organizations, societies, or trusts. Each award will include a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a citation. A special selection committee will thoroughly review the nominations before making the final decision.
The awardees will be announced in the first week of January 2025. The jury that will select the winners will be led by Padmanabhaiah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI).
Only individuals who are residents of Telangana and institutions or organizations working within the state are eligible to apply for these awards.
