Indiramma Housing Scheme: ₹5 Lakh Aid Announced with Updates by Minister Ponguleti

The Telangana government has announced an important update regarding the Indiramma Housing Scheme. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy revealed that a special app has been developed to streamline the selection of beneficiaries. Under the scheme, financial assistance of ₹5 lakh will be provided to individuals who own land, and this will be implemented in phases. In a significant move, the government has decided to prioritize women as the registered owners of the houses. The selection process for beneficiaries is set to begin on the 6th of this month.

This housing scheme is part of the six guarantees promised by the Telangana Congress during their election campaign. Other schemes, such as Mahalakshmi (free bus travel), Grihajyoti (free electricity), and farmer loan waivers, have already been implemented. The Indiramma Housing Scheme, another critical guarantee, focuses on providing houses for the poor. Many landowners who aspire to build their own homes are eagerly awaiting the rollout of this initiative.

Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy clarified the implementation plan during a media conference on Saturday. In the first phase, the scheme will cater to landowners who do not have a house. In the second phase, individuals without land will also be supported. These beneficiaries will receive 75 to 80 yards of land along with ₹5 lakh in financial aid. The identification of beneficiaries will begin at the field level on the 6th of this month, with the help of the newly launched app.

Poverty will be the sole criterion for selecting beneficiaries, and houses will be registered in the names of women. Minister Ponguleti assured that the government is committed to building 20 lakh houses in the next four years, despite financial challenges. He also announced that the selection process will be completed within 15 days through village committees, and the final lists will be updated continuously.

The Minister emphasized that the scheme aims to empower the poor and will not be influenced by political interference. Construction will take place in four stages: ₹1 lakh for the foundation, ₹1.25 lakh for the walls, ₹1.5 lakh for the slab, and ₹1 lakh upon house completion. In the first phase, 3,500 houses will be allocated to each constituency.

Additionally, beneficiaries will have the freedom to design and construct their homes according to their preferences. The Minister highlighted the importance of the app in ensuring transparency in the selection process. He explained that the development of the app had caused some delays, but it is now ready to facilitate the smooth implementation of the scheme.
