Indian-Origin Politician Tarun Ghulati Confident in Bid to Become London's First Mayor

Tarun Ghulati, an investment banker turned politician, is running as an Independent candidate for the Mayor of London. He aims to strengthen the bond between India and the UK, drawing inspiration from Rishi Sunak, the first Indian-origin UK Prime Minister. Tarun, who has been a UK citizen for two decades, is confident of gaining support from Asian-origin citizens, British natives, and the European and African diaspora.

Tarun announced his candidacy from Hyderabad, a global and culturally rich city with a strong startup ecosystem. He plans to visit several nations to strengthen connections between London and its diaspora communities. Tarun has a background in banking and has served in HSBC as an International Manager and non-executive Vice Chairman. He is also a co-founder and co-chair of the India Startup Festival.

Tarun emphasizes the importance of the Free Trade Agreement between India and the UK in unlocking opportunities for economic growth and development. As London Mayor, he aims to build strong connections between countries and remove barriers to growth. He plans to scrap the Ultra-Low Emission Zone, review speed limits and traffic zones, increase visible policing, and prioritize affordable housing.

Karuna Gopal, BJP National Incharge of Women Policies and Research, welcomes Tarun’s candidacy and believes that someone with Indian roots like him is a perfect fit for the role of London Mayor. She believes that Tarun can take full advantage of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Overall, Tarun Ghulati’s candidacy for Mayor of London aims to strengthen the bond between India and the UK, promote economic growth, improve infrastructure, and prioritize the needs of citizens.
