Indian Nursing Council to increase scrutiny of nursing colleges and hospitals in Hyderabad

Hospitals that run nursing colleges and hire mobile faculty will now face challenges. The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued a notice stating that any faculty member found working in more than two institutions within three months will be investigated. These faculty members will have to appear before the ethics committee of the INC and provide an explanation. The committee may even consider taking action against the faculty, such as cancelling their registration with the INC. The INC has also taken a stricter stance on hospitals that run nursing colleges.

Reports have shown that nursing students are being taken for raids by hospital-cum-nursing colleges. To address this issue, the INC has stated that holding onto academic certificates and mark memos will be taken seriously. Nursing colleges and hospitals will also be penalized for trying to retain students or nurses by withholding their academic certificates, making them sign unilateral service contracts, or bonding them. The INC considers these practices unethical and warns that penal action will be taken against such institutions and hospitals if they are found to retain students’ original certificates forcibly.
