Increase in PPAC approved by Delhi DERC

Electricity prices in Delhi may soon rise. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) approved an increase in electricity rates through the Power Purchase Agreement Cost (PPAC). This will make power usage in BSES zones 10% more expensive. However, the Delhi government has the final say in this decision.

The DERC granted permission to power DISCOMS, BYPL (BSES Yamuna) and BRPL (BSES Rajdhani). People living in South Delhi, West Delhi, Trans-Yamuna region, Old Delhi, New Delhi and NDMC region will be affected by the rise in electricity bills.

Power supply companies must get DERC approval every year to increase electricity pricing under the power purchase agreement. This time, it has been approved, and the process of calculating new electricity prices has begun. A final decision will be made after obtaining public input.

The Delhi government published a statement in reaction to the DERC’s rise in power pricing, asserting that the increased electricity costs will not impact Delhi citizens. Under the Power Purchase Agreement, electricity costs continue to vary.
