Hyderabad’s Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) is getting ready to tackle illegal encroachments and construction activities around lakes and water bodies in the city. After a brief pause, the agency is focusing on removing structures built within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of these water bodies.
The demolition work had been stopped for the past two weeks due to bad weather and festive celebrations. However, HYDRA is now planning to resume its operations, with special attention given to structures built on the FTL and buffer zone of the famous Hussain Sagar lake.
Since HYDRA began its demolitions, many social organizations, activists, and political leaders have called on the agency and the government to take action against certain structures. One of the main targets is the Jalavihar amusement park and Thrill City, located on Necklace Road. These structures are alleged to have been built by encroaching on Hussain Sagar’s land.
Recently, Aziz Pasha, a national leader from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and a former Member of Parliament, submitted a request to HYDRA to demolish the Jalavihar amusement park. He claimed that it was illegally built on 12.5 acres of land within the FTL and buffer zone of Hussain Sagar. Pasha also argued that the park was constructed in violation of environmental rules and court orders.
