Hyderabad: Strict Action Against Unauthorized Constructions by HYDRA
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) Commissioner, AV Ranganath, announced on Tuesday that unauthorized residential structures built after July 2024 will be demolished. He clarified that structures, whether legal or illegal, constructed before this period will remain untouched. HYDRA will only target commercial and unauthorized buildings developed after its formation.
Ranganath reassured residents of Raghavendra Colony that older structures would not face any action. He urged citizens not to fall for misinformation and emphasized that HYDRA’s actions would align strictly with established policies and regulations.
Inspections at Kamuni Cheruvu and Maisamma Cheruvu
During an inspection at Kamuni Cheruvu in Kukatpally and Maisamma Cheruvu in Borabanda, Ranganath addressed concerns about illegal encroachments near the lakes. He warned against the unauthorized dumping of soil or construction debris into the water bodies, a growing problem in the area.
The commissioner instructed officials to remove any recent encroachments and take necessary steps to safeguard the lake bunds. Expressing frustration, he ordered the Vasavi Sarovar developers to halt construction unless a 17-meter-wide nala, as required, is built. This nala is essential for maintaining proper water flow between Kamuni Cheruvu and Maisamma Cheruvu. He also noted that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is developing a walking track around the lake.
Planned Upgrades Around the Lakes
Ranganath, along with HMDA officials, discussed several upgrades planned for the areas surrounding the lakes. These improvements include walking tracks, seating arrangements, and eco-friendly features like solar-powered lighting, green spaces, and recreational facilities. These developments aim to enhance the infrastructure while promoting sustainable practices.
Efforts to Clear Lake Hyacinth
Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials reported that they had deployed earthmovers and lorries to remove water hyacinth from the lakes. However, during the process, a portion of the lake bund was accidentally damaged. Officials assured the public that corrective measures would be taken immediately to restore the bund, while continuing efforts to clear the hyacinth and protect the lakes.
