Hyderabad Ensures Smooth Development of City Lakes

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) Commissioner, AV Ranganath, has assured that there will be no obstacles in the development of lakes in Hyderabad.

On Thursday, Ranganath inspected the ongoing rejuvenation of Pedda Cheruvu in Khajaguda and Ibrahimbagh Lake in Neknampur. He emphasized that the government is focusing on enhancing and beautifying these important water bodies.

He urged corporate companies to contribute to lake development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. He also encouraged residents of upscale neighborhoods to support these efforts.

During his visit to Khajaguda Lake, representatives from NSL Infra and Divyashree Infra raised concerns about challenges in its development. In response, Ranganath directed irrigation officials to take immediate steps to divert drains and prevent sewage from entering the lake.

The Commissioner also highlighted the need to improve the lake’s surroundings to promote tourism. He suggested that the Tourism Development Corporation collaborate in these efforts and conveyed his recommendations to Varaprasad, the AGM of the corporation.

At Ibrahim Bagh Lake, Ranganath mentioned that recent encroachments had been cleared and that several organizations had adopted the lake for development. He urged that the work be sped up.

Residents and officials informed Ranganath that floodwaters from nearby lakes, such as Durgam, Khajaguda, Malkam, and Film Nagar, drain into Ibrahim Bagh Lake. They also expressed concerns about sewage clogging the lakes and drains due to expanding residential areas.

To protect the lake and reduce mosquito breeding, residents requested that sewage flow be diverted. In response, the Commissioner directed irrigation officials to address the sewage issue. He also called for the establishment of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and further beautification efforts with the help of local communities.

Ranganath assured that strict measures are being taken to prevent encroachments. Once the work is completed, the lakes will be transformed into pleasant environments. Ibrahim Bagh Lake, in particular, will serve as a recreational space for residents of nearby areas, including Alkapuri Colony, Vessel Meadows, and EVV Colony.
