The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department in Hyderabad is going to clean up the city’s lakes. They inspected Chandan Cheruvu, Mantrala Cheruvu, and Pedda Cheruvu, and will soon start cleaning them as the temperature rises. Resident Welfare Associations and NGOs will also help to clean up lakes in Malkajgiri, RC Puram, Serilingampally, Saroornagar, Meerpet, and other areas. On Wednesday, MA&UD Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, and HMDA officials inspected the lakes to prepare for the cleaning activities. The goal is to remove hyacinth, silt, and waste from the water bodies.
Officials also inspected works under the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) in Meerpet and Badangpet areas. The programme includes cleaning the lakes by de-silting them in a planned and phased manner, removing polluted silt from the lake beds, diverting existing water, and planning bypass box drains/RCC lines to divert sewage to STP facilities for a sustainable solution for all lakes.
Earlier this week, MA&UD officials inspected other lakes in different areas of the city. On Monday, Arvind Kumar and Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumanth Rao inspected the lakes in Malkajgiri and Alwal. Arvind Kumar tweeted that Minister for MA&UD K T Rama Rao had previously instructed the department to take up the lake cleaning drive.
