Hyderabad's Brilliant Solution to Preserve Water Bodies

Nikhil Laddha, a businessman and engineer from Hyderabad, has taken a significant step towards preserving the health of the city’s water bodies. His Kinder Sports initiative, which provides prefabricated pools for idol immersion during the Ganesh festivities, showcases our commitment to the environment and the sustainability of our natural resources.

In August 2022, Laddha received an order from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for 24 prefabricated pools. This is the second year in a row that his team has successfully manufactured and installed these pools across the city. The pools are 20x10x1.32 metres with a depth of 4.5 feet and allow idols that are 3 feet and below to be immersed.

Laddha expressed his delight at the positive response from residents who willingly used these pools for idol immersion. Last year, nearly 60,000 idols were immersed in these eco-friendly pools, reflecting a growing awareness and commitment to environmentally responsible practices during cultural celebrations.

After the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, these adaptable pools find a second purpose in the Bathukamma festival, serving as venues for the colorful immersion ritual. The goal is for this initiative to become a sustained effort to preserve lakes and water bodies, reinforcing our commitment to environmental conservation.

Creating artificial RCC ponds for idol immersion in urban areas has become a popular trend due to contamination of natural water bodies. However, these ponds require a lot of open space and are not reusable. In contrast, portable swimming pools offer a more flexible solution. They can be disassembled after use or kept in place for ongoing benefits like swimming lessons for children, maximizing the utility of available space.

Nikhil Laddha, who previously worked as a swimming coach in Australia, was inspired to bring his experience to the Indian market. The initial purpose of these pools was to teach swimming to children in rural areas. However, they have now evolved into an environmentally friendly and innovative solution for Ganesh immersion, highlighting their adaptability and positive impact on the environment.
