Hyderabad: Youngster from the city passes away in Russia

A young man from Hyderabad named Mohammed Asfan, aged 30, died after being deceived into participating in the Russia-Ukraine war. His death was confirmed by the Indian embassy in Moscow, and they are working to send his body back to India. The exact circumstances of his death were not provided.

Reports indicate that many Indians were recruited as security helpers for the Russian military and were even made to fight alongside Russian soldiers in certain areas near Ukraine. Asaduddin Owaisi, a Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, had previously raised concerns about this issue.

The Ministry of External Affairs is working to release around 20 Indian nationals who were working as support staff for the Russian army. Asaduddin Owaisi had written to the External Affairs Minister and the Indian Embassy in Moscow in January seeking information about three youths from Hyderabad, including Asfan, who had been misled into joining the private army in Russia.

Asfan’s family, along with the families of the other two youths, Arbab Hussain and Zahoor Ahmed, are distraught as they have had no contact with their loved ones since they went to Russia for job opportunities. The situation highlights the dangers faced by unsuspecting individuals who are lured into dangerous situations abroad.
