Woman Scammed of ₹40,000 in Fake Lehenga Offer on Instagram
Cybercriminals are constantly finding new ways to trick people. Recently, a woman from Hyderabad fell victim to an online scam while trying to buy a lehenga through a discount offer. Unfortunately, the fraudsters managed to swindle ₹40,000 from her.
The victim, Srivalli, who resides in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, spotted a lehenga on an Instagram page named Pooja Collections. Attracted by the offer, she paid ₹1,000 to place an order for the lehenga. However, after two days, the lehenga did not arrive.
When Srivalli contacted the phone number provided on the Instagram page, the scammers pretended to assist her by saying they needed to verify her account. During this process, they deceitfully withdrew ₹40,000 from her bank account.
Realizing she had been defrauded, Srivalli immediately reported the incident to the police. The authorities are now investigating the case and have issued a warning to the public to stay alert while shopping online.
The police emphasized that cybercriminals often exploit people’s greed to carry out their scams. They reminded everyone that if an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is. Social media users are advised to remain cautious and avoid trusting unbelievable discount deals.
