Hyderabad RWAs Launch Initiatives to Increase Voter Participation

Just a few days are left for the Assembly elections in Hyderabad. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are taking initiatives to encourage voters to exercise their right to vote. The United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (UFERWAS), an apex body of 4,500 RWAs, is conducting a door-to-door awareness campaign and putting up informative posters in colonies. They are also organizing stage plays and urging voters to post on social media that they are proud voters after finding their names in the electoral rolls.

Amusement parks like Wonderla and some traders are offering special discounts of 10 to 20% to customers who vote and visit their shops. B T Srinivasan, the general secretary of UFRWAs, explained that the low polling percentage during the 2018 Assembly elections, around 50%, prompted them to come up with various activities. They want to encourage voters by emphasizing that each vote plays a vital role in electing a proper leader for the development of the city.

UFRWAs is helping residents find their names on electoral rolls and locate their polling booths so that they can vote without wasting time. They are also encouraging residents to post on social media once they have voted, saying that they were the first to cast their vote with their family, in order to motivate others.

Syed Khaled Shah Chishti Hussaini, the general secretary of Old Dairy Farm, expressed the desire for more citizens of Hyderabad to come out and vote. They have put up posters and videos and are visiting religious places to spread awareness about voting. They hope that in the upcoming election, more people will turn out in large numbers to vote.
