Hyderabad has been experiencing continuous rain for the past four days, causing the Hussain Sagar lake to reach its maximum level. The lake reached the Full Tank Level (FTL) of 514.75 meters on Friday. Authorities are closely monitoring the water level and discharge.
State Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav discussed the situation with GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose. The Minister instructed officials to alert people in low-lying areas near the discharge channels of Hussain Sagar.
The lake has been receiving a large amount of water from various storm drains due to the continuous rain. GHMC Commissioner and other officials inspected the water levels and discharge in Hussain Sagar.
In response to the ongoing rain, the State government declared a two-day holiday for all government offices and educational institutions within GHMC limits on Friday and Saturday. Emergency services will continue uninterrupted.
The heavy rain has caused disruption in normal life, with low-lying areas being flooded in various parts of the city and outskirts. The Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs have also received significant inflows due to the continuous downpour.
Osman Sagar currently has a water level of 1784.70 feet, just below its Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1790, after receiving 1,100 cusecs of water. Similarly, Himayat Sagar’s water level has increased to 1761.20 feet, slightly below its FTL of 1763.50 feet, after receiving 1,200 cusecs of water.
