Hyderabad Officials from HMWSSB take action, visit Chintabavi Basti

Around 100 people were taken to hospitals after drinking contaminated water in Chintabavi Basti, Mettuguda on Thursday. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) released a report on Friday that found the chlorine level in the water to be 0.2 ppm. On Friday, the Operations Director-1 of HMWSSB, Ajmira Krishna, and Secunderabad MLA T Padma Rao visited the area to inspect the situation.

Local linemen reported on Tuesday that 15-20 households were receiving contaminated water for the first 5-10 minutes of water release. The officials immediately stopped the supply and advised those affected not to drink the water. The households were temporarily supplied with drinking water through a tanker. Pollution-checking machines were used to test the pipeline for contamination, and it was confirmed that sewage water had entered the freshwater pipeline from a household connection near a sewage manhole.

On April 27, contaminated water was again supplied for the first few minutes, but this was due to the re-mixing of sewage that was already in the pipeline. The doctors of Basti Davakhana were contacted to obtain health details about the victims. MLA Padma Rao asked the Water Board officials to replace the old sewage pipeline with a new one and advised supplying drinking water through tankers until then.
