The Sakhi One Stop Centers (OSCs) are part of the Mission Shakti scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. These centers aim to support women affected by violence. Recently, the Shaheen Women’s Resource & Welfare Association from Hyderabad was selected to run one of these centers.

The Sakhi Centre by Shaheen Women’s Resource & Welfare Association has been established in Champapet, Saidabad. According to Jameela Nishat, the founder and director of Shaheen, the center provides comprehensive support to women facing violence and distress.

The center offers a range of services, including medical aid, legal assistance, temporary shelter, police help, and counseling support. It also provides short-term shelter and psycho-social counseling for survivors of domestic violence, ensuring that all necessary help is available under one roof.

Jameela Nishat further mentioned that under the Mission Shakti scheme and the Union government, Shaheen is recruiting staff for the Sakhi OSC. The positions include central administration, case workers, legal personnel, medical personnel, a psycho-social counselor, an IT assistant, multipurpose staff, and security personnel. The salaries for these roles range from ₹12,500 to ₹35,000.

For over 20 years, Shaheen Women’s Resource & Welfare Association has been actively fighting against gender-based violence and discrimination in Hyderabad’s Old City. Through peaceful protests, public education, and livelihood programs, the organization promotes gender justice, communal harmony, and economic empowerment while encouraging community participation.
