A man has been arrested for illegally storing and selling spoiled organ meat from sheep and goats. This meat was reportedly being supplied to hotels, catering services, and marriage events.
The Commissioner’s Task Force, along with a veterinary officer from GHMC’s Goshamahal Circle-14, conducted a raid. During the operation, they discovered 12 tonnes of rotten offal worth ₹8 lakh.
The suspect, 40-year-old Mohd Afroz, owned a shop called ‘A to Z Sheep & Goat Offal’ near Chisti Chaman Dargah in Mangalhat. Officials found that he was buying cheap, spoiled offal from wholesalers, storing it in his shop, and then selling it to unsuspecting customers. The seized items included trotters (paya), heads, brains, kidneys, livers, and other organ meats.
Authorities have warned that consuming spoiled offal can cause serious health issues like food poisoning and severe infections. The arrest was made after a tip-off, leading to the confiscation of the contaminated meat.
