Hyderabad is buzzing with excitement as Navaratri celebrations take center stage. Both the Telugu and Gujarati communities are making this year’s festivities unforgettable. Whether it’s the traditional Bathukamma or the energetic Raas Garba, the celebrations are a perfect example of unity in diversity, with a mix of traditional and modern music.

Across the city, from Begumpet to Hi-Tech City and Miyapur to Gachibowli, the streets are alive with the beats of dhols. The festive spirit is everywhere, with people coming together to celebrate in colorful attire.

At popular venues like the Hockey Stadium in Begumpet, Classic Garden, Gujarat School, and NTR Stadium, people dressed in vibrant kediyas and chaniya cholis gather for the aarti of the sacred ‘Garbi’ and Goddess Durga. These venues showcase the rich diversity of cultures as the Raas Garba rhythms blend seamlessly with Bathukamma songs, creating a joyful atmosphere where both traditions are celebrated together.

Organisers have noted that more people are attending the Garba events this year than last. They’ve also introduced new themes to add to the festive charm, with a strong focus on recreating a traditional ambiance. Many venues are decorated with replicas of bamboo houses and handmade items, giving the celebrations an authentic, nostalgic feel.

The Country Club in Begumpet hosted Navaratri Utsav 2024 in collaboration with Rel-event at the Police Hockey Stadium. One of the organisers mentioned that they’ve fused traditional Garba with modern beats to keep the energy high, and the number of participants has significantly increased. On weekends alone, between 5,000 to 10,000 people have joined the celebrations.

This year’s celebrations also have a creative twist. Each of the nine days features a unique theme, from the Olympics and Paralympics to Bollywood and traditional Gujarati attire like Bandhani and Patola. According to Saloni Jain from Navkar Navratri Utsav, which has been running for six years in Begumpet, they’ve worked hard to promote culture and tradition in the décor. An exciting Ashtami theme is planned, where the venue will be styled like a Coldplay concert, bringing a modern touch to the festivities.

At Malla Reddy Gardens, one of the Garba event organisers shared that this year’s celebrations have seen a beautiful fusion of cultures. People are not only dancing to Raas Garba but also embracing the songs of Bathukamma, further highlighting the unity and diversity in these joyful festivities.
