Telangana Government to Provide Nutritious Food in Social Residential Schools

The Telangana government has made an important decision to improve the nutrition levels of students studying in social residential schools. To ensure this, the government will collaborate with the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) to decide on the types of food that should be served to the students regularly.

Currently, there are around 268 residential educational institutions in Telangana under the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS). These schools cater to about 1.70 lakh students from Class V to Intermediate. Recently, the government introduced a common diet program to include snacks along with regular meals for these students.

This initiative comes after incidents of food poisoning and complaints about poor food quality in some schools across the state. In response, the government has decided to take stricter measures to ensure food safety and quality. With NIN’s guidance, the government aims to improve the meals provided in these schools.

Additionally, district Collectors have been instructed to ensure proper supply, preparation, and serving of food in these educational institutions. Authorities have emphasized the need for strict monitoring to avoid negligence in any part of the process.
